In August 2006, the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) launched an exciting Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) to pay and provide guidance to 15 local youth for ten months while they planned, developed and opened their innovative businesses.
Funded by Service Canada and delivered by partners BDO Dunwoody and the John Howard Society of Sault Ste. Marie, the program has been a success!
December was a milestone for the program as participants presented their completed business plans for feedback from professionals and peers. Moving into the new year, the remaining 30 weeks of the program will see the participants work their business plans through to reality.
Businesses range from computer support and technical writing to digital media marketing. Continued coverage of the progress and spotlights on individual businesses as they open will be covered in future issues of Eye on Innovation.
